What is a face balm?
What is it used for? Why you need a face balm!

Balms, moisturizers and face oils. What’s the difference between all these variations?

In general, the difference between a balm, moisturizer and a face oil is its consistency and thickness.

Facial oils typically contain essential fatty acids (Omegas and others), vitamins, and antioxidants with important skin benefits. Facial oils mimic the natural sebum production of our skin, which in turn helps balance our own oil production.

Moisturizers are meant to be lightweight and are, therefore, formulated with a high percentage of water, to which are added emollients (Shea or cocoa butter among the most common). They’re meant to hydrate the topmost layers of the skin. Using a daily moisturizer is just right when you have normal, combination or oily skin. But for treating dry skin, whether seasonal or more inherent to skin, a moisturizer is not enough to deliver adequate moisture and protection from the elements. This is where balms come in.

Face balms are solidified oils that melt into liquid when they come into contact with the warmth of your skin. Unlike moisturizers, balms are anhydrous, meaning that they contain no water. They provide a more robust and nourishing protective layer to your skin, sealing in your skincare for optimal results while shielding from external elements such as cold or dry air. Balms are known to be healing, calming, ultra-hydrating, luxuriously thick, and are usually the final step in the skincare regimen.

Here are 5 reasons your skin wants a face balm in your routine...

Face balm for night time recovery: When your skin is feeling particularly parched or fatigued, use our Blue Butterfly Balm as an overnight treatment to intensify the hydrating and nourishing results. As you sleep, your skin’s natural repair cycle kicks in and the balm’s ingredients can soak in more deeply and completely. The next morning, wake up to dewy and supple skin—no rinsing required.

Meadowfoam

Face balm for dry skin: With its high concentration of meadowfoam oil, mango butter, coconut oil, jojoba and shea butter, the Blue Butterfly Balm infuses the skin with a generous dose of rich moisture to soothe and treat areas prone to chronic dryness, such as elbows, knees, and hands. Just rub a small amount where needed, as often as needed to keep those irritation-prone areas supple and smooth all winter. You can even use it to prevent dry cuticles.

Face balm for cold weather and protection from windburn: Whether hitting the slopes or snowed in from December till April, the combination of dry air, gusty winds, and cold temperatures will wreak havoc on every skin type. Solution? Slather on a face balm. Blue Butterfly Balm is packed with 20 botanical super-actives that also fight free radicals and visibly reduce irritation and dry flaky skin. The rich texture creates a cocoon-like protective layer on the skin to guard against damaging elements like wind and cold.

Face balm to alleviate sun damage: Had too much fun in the sun? The Blue Butterfly Balm includes highly nourishing ingredients such as flax seed oil, kalahari melon extract, and evening primrose to accelerate the skin’s recovery and aid in repairing sun damage.
